Legacies of War Gallery Book | CCAD

About the Book

During the Fall 2024 semester, Legacies of War and Columbus College of Art & Design collaborated in a learning project to create artworks in response to the Legacies of War mission. Fourteen CCAD Fine Arts students participated through the FINE3101: Fine Arts Integrated Studio II course taught by Julie Abijanac, Chair and Professor of Fine Arts, and Dr. Ramya Ravisankar, Associate Professor of Fine Arts. Students used The Originals, a series of historic documentary drawings from the Legacies of War archive, as references for their pieces. The aim of this project was to explore the themes, techniques, and socio-political commentary present in Nancy Spero’s War series in connection with the ongoing impact of global conflicts as examined by the Legacies of War Project. Students analyzed how Spero and The Originals series from Legacies of War’s collection each critique war, violence, and the representation of women. They then created their own art pieces inspired by these themes, reflecting on the long-term consequences of war. The results of this project were shown in October 2024 in a collaborative exhibition titled Every Eight Minutes, held in Acock Gallery at Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio.
