"Legacies of War is devoted to increasing awareness of the "Secret War" in Laos and advocating for funding for UXO removal and assistance for survivors and victims of UXO. As a participant in the "Secret War" and haunted for decades by guilt and shame for that participation, I want to do what I can to help the Lao people."
My Story
Don Super is a U.S. Army Security Agency veteran who served during the American Secret War in Laos. After enlisting in March 1968, he was trained in the Lao language at the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service Institute and stationed at Ramasun Station in Northeast Thailand, where he provided bombing coordinates for daily U.S. air missions over Laos. HEe returned to Laos in 2019 and witnessed the devastating aftermath of the war—including the 80 million unexploded bombs still littering the country. This experience led him to join Legacies of War and advocate for U.S. funding to remove these deadly remnants, which continue to harm innocent civilians more than 50 years later. He hopes to engage students and his fellow Americans in conversation about historical accountability, the long-term consequences of U.S. foreign policy in Southeast Asia, and our responsibility to support healing and recovery efforts in the region.
