Legacies MIC (Multi-media Interactive Center): Giving the Past a Voice

Lead Developer: S. Steve Arounsack, Ph.D.
Creative Director/Graphics: Nor Sanavongsay

Advisors: Jack Silberman (Producer of Bombies) and Thavisouk Phrasavath (Co-Director of Nerakhoun: Betrayal)

OVERVIEW

To educate audiences about the secret war in Laos and reveal its profound effects in a dynamic way, an interactive kiosk will be developed.  At each exhibition site, audiences will be treated to a large user-friendly touchscreen that will access rich multimedia content such as videos, animations, and photo galleries—all in dazzling high-definition. Ultimately, this interactive program will be converted into a website and HD DVD-ROM. The program will then serve as a virtual traveling exhibition that will continue to educate and inspire audiences long after the exhibitions have ceased.

Legacy’s MIC will be image-driven to include maps, animations, and other intuitive visual cues. Where possible, both Lao and English translations will be provided.

KEY ADVANTAGES

1. Interactivity. Exhibition attendees will be able to pick and choose what content they wish to view in vivid and dynamic ways.

2. Valuable addition to educational curriculum. Students will be exposed to a new aspect of a war that has shaped much of U.S. history.

3. Capacity for growth. This will be an organic project: as more stories and audience reactions are collected, the interactive experience will expand and grow.

4. Longevity. To leave a legacy of education and inspiration, this interactive program will encapsulate the major components of the exhibitions.
